Man shot while resisting arrest

A homicide suspect faces additional criminal charges after he resisted arrest by Makati City police officers early morning yesterday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Joseph Robles said apart from the homicide case earlier filed against Conrado Gaitan, the latter will also be charged with direct assault.

Initial investigation showed that about 1:30 a.m., a Makati police team led by Senior Police Officer 1 Reynaldo Jimenez was about to serve Gaitan an arrest warrant when the suspect fought them off and grabbed Jimenez’s service firearm.

Gaitan and Jimenez struggled over the gun when it accidentally went off and hit Gaitan in the left foot.

Members of the Bantay Bayan of Barangay Tejeros were present when the incident happened. They brought Gaitan to the Ospital ng Makati for treatment.

Robles said the police will still serve the warrant to Gaitan. – Rhodina Villanueva
