Makati collects P4 B in taxes for first quarter

-

The Makati City government collected P4.171 billion in taxes from January to March this year, topping by about five percent the collection of P3.958 billion during the same period last year.

In a report to Mayor Jejomar Binay, City Treasurer Nelia Barlis said realty tax had the biggest contribution with P2 billion collected, followed by business tax, which amounted to P1.9 billion.

She said the rest was from miscellaneous tax payments, P204 million, and economic enterprise, P38.4 million.

Binay lauded the city’s taxpayers for helping sustain the city’s financial stability by dutifully paying their taxes.

Data from the treasurer’s report showed that compared to the same period last year, realty tax collection in the first quarter increased by four percent, business tax by six percent, miscellaneous tax, four percent, and economic enterprise, 10 percent.

Through computers linked to the Treasury Department at the City Hall, taxpayers need only to provide any relevant information about their property, and the tax due is immediately computed. They will then be provided with an electronic receipt. The whole process only takes two to four minutes.

To date, electronic tax payment is available in 12 barangays.
