LLDA dismantles fish cages in Taguig

-

A team from the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA)  started knocking down illegal fish cages in Taguig City yesterday.

Freddie Espital, head of the city’s Lake and River Management Office, said at least 10 illegal fish cages put up between Barangays Wawa and Hagonoy were dismantled by the LLDA team.

Espital said these fish cages have not been registered with the LLDA though its respective owners have been continuing with their operations.

“There were those who tore down their cages even before the team from the LLDA arrived at the site,” he added.

The LLDA is set to conduct inspections in other cities in Metro Manila where illegal fish cages are said to have been built. If proven that these are illegally operating, the agency would have to dismantle them.

Tony Landrito, head of Muntinlupa City’s LLDA satellite office, said the agency will start inspection of fish cages in Muntinlupa today.  – Rhodina Villanueva
