2 killed in Caloocan, Valenzuela road mishaps

-

Two people died while a nine-year-old girl was seriously injured in two separate road mishaps in Caloocan and Valenzuela Friday night.

Police identified the fatalities as Rowena Dolosa, 36, a resident of Libis Gochuico, and Elpidio Cagabi Jr., 41, a resident of Grace Park, both in Caloocan City.

The nine-year-old victim, Johnelle Dolosa, is confined at the President Diosdado Macapagal Memorial Medical Center due to head and body injuries. Her condition remains unstable.

Police Officer 3 Ferdinand Manapat, of the Caloocan City police Traffic Enforcement Unit, said that at around 12:20 p.m. Rowena was walking with her daughter Johnelle on Dagat-Dagatan Avenue Extension when they were sideswiped by a speeding trailer truck (UTD-803) driven by Johnny Avenido. Rowena was killed when the truck’s rear wheels ran over her.

Avenido, 44, surrendered voluntarily to the police.

In Valenzuela City, police arrested dump truck driver Peter Paton-og, 41, after his truck ran over Cagabi at around 7:30 p.m.

Valenzuela City traffic investigator PO3 Raymundo Bautista said Cagabi was riding his bicycle when he accidentally bumped a parked tricycle on Pio Valenzuela street in Barangay Marulas.

Cagabi was thrown off his bicycle and landed on the other side of the road, where he was run over by a speeding dump truck (TDR-620) driven by Avenido. The driver was immediately arrested by the police. – Pete Laude, Jerry Botial
