Pasay City goes hi-tech with new CCTVs

The Pasay City government has allocated a total of P14 million for the purchase and installation of several CCTVs in strategic areas in the city.

Mayor Wenceslao “Peewee” Trinidad said the amount will be taken from  the Pasay City Traffic and Parking Management Bureau trust fund.

He said there is a need to complement the city’s traffic management workforce with state of the art technology such as the CCTVs in order to serve the people better. “With the growing business and industrial activity in our city that brought about massive inflow of people and transport, several strategic centers have now become security and traffic hazards,” the mayor said.

The budget for the setting up of CCTVs is provided for in a city ordinance authored by Councilor Arnel Regino Arceo.

Florencio Mateo, chief of the Pasay Traffic and Parking Management Office, said a total of 80 CCTV cameras will be installed in 20 strategic areas in Pasay City.

He said it will also serve the local police a purpose since it can be used to monitor crime incidents.

Mateo has initially identified six priority areas where they plan to install the CCTV cameras. These are along EDSA-Rotonda, Roxas Boulevard, Diosdado Macapagal Avenue, Merville, Libertad and Buendia.

“These CCTV cameras are of superior quality since these will be equipped with a zoom function that is able to monitor and record incidents at a 360 degree angle,” he noted.

Mateo added that once installed, the cameras will be operational 24-hours daily.

“The police can coordinate with us and use it for the purpose of checking crime incidents in different barangays in the city,” he added. – Rhodina Villanueva
