Two people were killed and four others were injured when two fires broke out in Pasay and Parañaque yesterday morning.
Arson investigator Fire Officer 3 Renato Recto identified the victims as 38-year-old Rufo Upos and his daughter Rodalyn, 9.
The victims, residents of Orion street in Pasay, died after they were trapped in a 10-door residential apartment when the blaze struck around 4:55 a.m. The fire immediately spread to at least three shanties in the area.
The fire, which reached the fourth alarm, is said to have originated from the ground floor of the apartment occupied by Dick Patawaran. It was put out at 6:35 a.m.
Recto said around 40 families were displaced as a result of the incident. He estimated the damage caused by the fire to have reached P2 million.
In Parañaque, arson investigators said around P5 million worth of property was destroyed after a fire broke out at around 6:41 a.m. in Cruz Compound, Barangay San Isidro.
Josel dela Rosa, a fire volunteer; Ricardo Ramos, 53; Jaine Boco, 17 and Gabriel Resultay, 1, suffered lacerations on different parts of the body.
FO3 Vicente Arellano said the fire destroyed at least 100 houses, leaving 200 families homeless. Arellano said an unattended candle in the house of Bunny Sagala caused the fire.
