Caloocan offers summer jobs to students

-

Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri announced yesterday that 850 slots are available for youths interested in joining the local government’s Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) this summer.

He said the SPES program, which will run from May 5 to 27, will let poor but deserving students aged 15 to 25 earn minimum wage by working for the city government.

Echiverri said the summer jobs would allow students learn about local governance and public administration through firsthand experience.

He urged interested students to secure application forms at the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) under the Labor and Industrial Relations Office at the city hall. LIRO chief Dante Esteban said applicants must bring a photocopy of their birth certificate and a recent 1 x 1 colored ID picture.

High school students should also bring their Form 138, or a photocopy that is certified by their school principal, for the third grading period. College students must have with them their original registration card and class cards with final grades.

Applicants should also bring a photocopy of their parents’ income tax return for 2006 or 2007 if their parents are employed; if not, they should present a Department of Social Welfare and Development indigent certificate and a certification from their barangay chairman that both parents are jobless. — Pete Laude
