Close call for PACER, Pasay cops over ‘kidnapping’

-

A gunfight nearly occurred as several Pasay City policemen tried to intervene in what they thought was a kidnapping in progress yesterday morning.

Pasay City police chief Senior Superintendent Marietto Valerio said the alleged kidnapping is, in fact, a legitimate operation of members of the Police Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (PACER), who arrested kidnap for ransom suspect John Lambino.

Valerio said the PACER coordinated the arrest with his office, but “it just so happened that a number of Pasay policemen were not immediately informed of it and thought that someone was being kidnapped.”

The lack of coordination resulted in one of the Pasay policemen firing warning shots.

“However, the incident was immediately clarified with the responding local policemen. The PACER group was afterwards allowed to bring Lambino to their headquarters,” Valerio said.

PACER personnel, armed with an arrest warrant, went to an area near the Pasay City police headquarters in two Toyota Revos after receiving a tip that Lambino was there.   – Rhodina Villanueva
