A new witness to the Pasay City spree shooting that left three men dead and one badly hurt a week ago said the suspect is being coddled by his employer, police said yesterday.
Police Officer 2 Jonathan Morales of the Pasay City police investigation division said the witness alleged that the suspect, John Paolo Garcia, is in the custody of Romeo Sayaman, who operates the ASSI taxicabs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Garcia reportedly works for Sayaman as a bodyguard.
The witness, who was introduced to Garcia when the latter was looking for someone to fix his motorcycle, Garcia told him on March 11 about his plan to kill his three neighbors.
The witness also claimed that Garcia’s employer owns the gun he used to kill Ruel delos Reyes, 23; Gerry da Quigan, 37; and Guillermo Bocalbos, 31. The victims had been Garcia’s neighbors in the BAT Compound in Pildera 2.
Records showed that Garcia earlier told Police Community Precinct 9 policemen that Delos Reyes, Da Quigan and Bocalbos threatened to kill him after he nearly ran over them with his motorcycle.
On the night of March 11, Garcia saw the three victims engaged in a drinking session outside their houses. Believing that the three were out to harm him, Garcia got his gun and shot the victims several times. – Rhodina Villanueva
