Cops hunt down supplier of abortion drug

The Manila Police District (MPD) is searching for the person or group supplying the abortion-inducing drug Cytotec to vendors in Quiapo and Sta. Cruz.

Vendors Elvira del Rosario, Gemma Piansa, and Nita Espilinberto, who were arrested for selling the drug, pointed to a man known as “Danny Kulit” as the one supplying them with Cytotec, an anti-ulcer drug that has been banned in the country since it can induce abortions.

The vendors were caught with 17 Cytotec tablets, which they sell for P60 to P100 each.

Sta. Cruz police station chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula said Kulit enjoys protection from a high-ranking Manila City Hall official and has been using his contacts in the media to spread rumors about his men.

He added that Quiapo parish priest Monsignor Jose Clemente has slammed the wanton sale of the banned drug around Quiapo church. — Nestor Etolle
