Echiverri calls on firms to join basketball tournament

-

City Mayor Enrico Echiverri yesterday urged the business sector to participate in a citywide inter-company basketball tournament that aims to promote unity and cooperation in the workforce.

Dubbed the “Recom Basketbolan Tungo sa Kapayapaan sa Pagawaan,” the tournament for men is open to all companies and corporations operating within the city.

Of the 20 companies that have so far expressed enthusiasm for the tournament, at least four teams have confirmed their participation. The deadline for submission of lineup and proofs of company employment is set today.

Echiverri said participants may come from the company’s rank-and-file employees and management personnel, regardless of their status of employment.

He added that a company may be only be represented by a single team of not more than 15 players, while small or medium ones may merge with other companies to form their respective teams.

The deadline for submitting the list of lineups and complete company identification cards is also today to guarantee proper scheduling.

Labor and Industrial Relations Office chief Dante Esteban said Echiverri will lead the opening ceremonies on March 26 and award the team with the best uniform and best muse, while the specific schedules and venues would be posted at the LIRO.

Esteban said games will be held in several covered courts including those at the Gregoria de Jesus Elementary School on 10th Avenue and the covered courts of Leasca in Barangay 16 and in Sabalo, both in Dagat-Dagatan.  Jerry Botial
