Driver dies in SLEX accident

-

A truck driver died and his helper was seriously injured after they figured in an accident while cruising along the southbound lane of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) early morning yesterday.

A report from the Philippine National Construction Corp’s Monitoring Center showed that driver Gilbert dela Fuente, 47, a native of Pamplona, Cagayan de Oro, was dead on the spot when the Isuzu 10-wheeler truck (REP-446) he was driving hit another truck in front.

Dela Fuente’s companion, helper Melo Alnas, 29, of Cabuyao, Laguna, was seriously injured. Both the two victims were brought to the Ospital ng Muntinlupa.

Orly Lanuza, PNCC radio operator, said the incident happened around 3:50 a.m. in the Susana Heights area, Muntinlupa City. The truck which was empty of any delivery, came from Manila and was on its way to Laguna.

Lanuza said that as a result of the strong impact of the collision, Dela Fuente got stuck in the driver’s seat.

Investigators of the Muntinlupa Police-Traffic Division said it is possible that the two victims were sleepy when the accident happened.  – Rhodina Villanueva
