Caloocan dresses up for Women’s Day
Caloocan City Mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri, not yet “honorary woman” like the original, the late senator Raul Roco, but who is honorary chairman of the city’s Gender and Development Council, announced that several programs and activities have been lined up by the city government in recognition of the role of women in nation building to remind the people of the fundamental equality of women and men before the law.
Even the main City Hall along
Echiverri, led a citywide motorcade yesterday in a bid to create awareness among the people on gender and development issues.
On March 10, Echiverri will spearhead the distribution of early childhood and development materials to various priority barangays immediately after the mayor’s unveiling of the GAD Photo Exhibit at the main City Hall.
GAD chairperson and City Councilor Nora Nubla said that with their partnership with a cosmetics manufacturer, residents could avail of a free make-over, enjoy fun and games and avail of other free beauty treatments on March 17 at City Hall North.
Nubla said that on March 25, the city will hold a breast cancer symposium and consultation that would be made more interesting with various socio-cultural presentations. He has also authored Proposed Ordinance No. 1284 s. 2007 entitled “An Ordinance Enacting the Gender and Development Code of Caloocan City” that is seen to provide a comprehensive protection against inequality and discrimination on women on the basis of gender and sexual orientation in education, health, employment, training, as well as in public and health facilities, among others. – Jerry Botial
