LTO to shut down erring emission test centers

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is set to close down 45 private emission testing centers for allegedly issuing certificates to car owners even if they never tested the vehicles for smoke emission.

LTO director Alberto Suansing said among the centers under investigation are Wealth ETC in Malabon; Manila Midwest, Cavite; BAR Enterprises in Tunasan, Muntinlupa; Green Mind, Tuguegarao; Green Star in Alabang, Muntinlupa; Manila Midwest, Taytay; MSSB, Pila; Pioneer ETC, Taguig; Greenmind ETC, Cagayan; Orange ETC, Pampanga; MSSB ETC, Bataan; Eastern Visayas ETC, Tacloban; Techno Motors ETC, Zamboanga; Manila Midwest in Kalayaan, Quezon City; Dataprobe ETC in Tayuman, Manila; Enviroguard ETC on East Avenue, Quezon City; Achilles ETC in Sto. Domingo, Quezon City; and DRTDIN ETC, Quezon City.

Apart from being shut down, a center found guilty of violations will be meted a P30,000 fine for every violation.  – Rainier Allan Ronda
