One person was killed and two others seriously injured when a car collided with an 18-wheeler truck along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) early morning yesterday.
Senior Police Officer 1 Ramon Pagado of the Traffic Management Group-SLEX identified the fatality as Richard Perillo, 35, married, a resident of Diamond Street, Concepcion Subdivision, Marikina City. Perillo, who sustained serious head and body injuries, died before reaching the South Super Highway Medical Center in Parañaque City.
Perillo’s driver Pepe Dasion, 41, and passenger Editha Mabalot, 45, sustained serious injuries. They are still being treated at the Makati Medical Center.
Initial investigation disclosed that around 3 a.m., the victims were in a Honda Civic (XHH-568) that was cruising along the northbound lane of SLEX. Upon reaching the La Suerte company in Parañaque, Perillo’s car suddenly hit the rear of the trailer truck, which was also traversing the same lane.
Truck driver Marianito Dadulla, 34, married, a stay-in employee of Fenix Sunstar Corp. located at Plastic City, Industry Park, Lingonan, Valenzuela City, told police investigators that he just heard a very loud thump from the back of the truck. Pagado said that apart from the road being wet and slippery, the car’s driver could have been speeding. – Rhodina Villanueva
