BF residents set plan for elections

Members of the United BF Homeowners Association Inc. (UBFHAI) Board are willing to unite with the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) and the Management Committee (Mancom) to finally hold the elections of new officials of the homeowners.

The UBFHAI is offering the opposing group three seats in the six-member Election Committee (Elecom) that will supervise the polls which will be called and held in the coming weeks.

UBFHAI president Celso Reyes said their group is willing to enter into an agreement to end this problem.

He made the offer in light of the Mancom’s pronouncements that it will hold a separate election in accordance with the orders of the HLURB.

Reyes said the UBFHAI is open to the idea of letting the other party participate by joining the Elecom in order to finally put an end to the organization’s problems through the election of a new set of officials.

The HLURB, he added, may also observe the conduct of elections in order to ensure that the same is done properly according to the association’s Constitution.

Lawyer Aristotle Sarmiento who chairs the Mancom said Reyes’ idea is not bad, noting that they are willing to enter into a deal with the opposing group.

“It can be done if HLURB will order it,” he told The Star, stressing that the existing order clearly states that they are the ones being given the authority to call and conduct an election.

"We are mere implementers of the order,” Sarmiento said.

According to him, there are no motions being filed in so far as deals or amicable settlements are concerned and the HLURB’s Board of Commissioners cannot act on its own.

Sarmiento noted that unless ordered otherwise, the Mancom will proceed with calling and conducting elections which it has already scheduled on March 29 to May 18, 2008.

The UBFHAI Board, claiming to be acting in accordance with the association’s by-laws, is also in the process of calling and conducting a separate election.
