Boy killed in Malabon road mishap

A three-year-old boy was killed when a speeding passenger jeepney sideswiped him in Malabon City Sunday afternoon.

Police said Jeeniro Zayco Pedrosa and his mother, Jerinel, 20, were crossing at a pedestrian lane on Gov. Pascual Avenue in Barangay Acacia when the boy suddenly pulled free of his mother’s grasp and ran ahead of her.

A jeepney driven by Liberato Querteros, 37, hit the boy, who “rolled under the jeepney as he fell to the ground,” police said.

Querteros and Pedrosa’s mother rushed him to the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon for treatment, but he died along the way.

Police arrested Querteros, who will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide before the Malabon City fiscal’s office.      – Pete Laude
