4 alleged thieves nabbed in Caloocan

Police arrested four of seven alleged thieves who burglarized a public elementary school before dawn Monday in Caloocan City.

Caloocan City police chief Superintendent William Macavinta identified the suspects as Fernando de Guzman Jr., 26; Rusty Trinidad, 19; and two minors identified only as Joseph, 17, and Bryan, 16, all residents of Bagong Silang, Caloocan City North.

Charges were filed Tuesday against the suspects before the office of Caloocan City assistant prosecutor Nemia Gabutin Gallo, who recommended P24,000 bail for each of the suspects.

Senior Police Officer 4 Danilo Salas said the three other suspects – Fernando de Guzman Sr., a certain Allan and one Mac-Mac – all residents of Phase 10 in Bagong Silang, remain at large.

Salas said that at around 2 a.m., at least seven burglars broke into the Kalayaan Elementary School’s main building in Bagong Silang and stole six electric fans and a computer set.

The suspects entered the building through the ceiling, Salas said.

A concerned resident who witnessed the break-in monitored the suspects’ activity and followed them to an abandoned house near the school.

The witness immediately sought assistance from Caloocan Sub-station 3 operatives, who arrested four of the suspects and recovered the stolen items. – Pete Laude
