2 men rob cashier on street, in broad daylight
Alert policemen nabbed two men who allegedly robbed a cashier in broad daylight in Sta. Cruz, Manila the other day.
Superintendent Orlando Yebra, chief of the District Police Intelligence and Operations Unit (DPIOU) of the Manila Police District, identified the suspects as Gilbert Cando, 30, a Batang City Jail gang member; and Frederick Navarro, 31, a Sputnik gang member, both of 1281 Tambunting street in Sta. Cruz.
Recovered from the suspects were two fan knives, their victim’s gold bracelets worth P10,000, a pair of gold earrings worth P3,000 and a cellular phone.
According to the victim, she was walking along Blumentritt street in Sta. Cruz at about 10 a.m. when two men pressed themselves against her and demanded her valuables at knifepoint. She handed them her bracelets, earrings and cell phone, but shouted for help as soon as the two suspects left her.
Police officers, led by Senior Police Officer 2 Jessie Laiz, who were patrolling the area heard her shouts and gave chase. They cornered the suspects, who surrendered their loot.
The police officers later found out that the two men were wanted for a number of robberies in the Blumentritt area. “They are a good catch since we have been tasked by Col. Yebra to go against all forms of criminality in Manila,” Laiz told The STAR. – Nestor Etolle
