Octogenarian, wife found dead

An 86-year-old man and his wife were found dead by the man’s daughter in the couple’s room in Quezon City early yesterday morning.

Police reports identified the victims as Manuel Calacal, a United States citizen, and his wife, Carmen, 55.

Calacal’s daughter, who was sleeping in an adjacent room in their residence in Barangay Greater Lagro, heard successive gunshots at around 4 a.m.

She knocked on the door of the couple’s room, but no one answered. When she forced the door open, she found her father on top of the bed, holding a handgun, and her stepmother lying on the floor. Both were already dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Police found a .38 caliber revolver and five shells.               – Reinir Padua
