LTO ‘Oplan Isnabero’ chief gets death threats

The Land Transportation Office’s Task Force Isnabero chief said yesterday he has been receiving death threats as a result of the LTO’s continued crackdown on abusive taxi drivers in Metro Manila.

Fernando Quiambao, executive assistant of LTO chief Reynaldo Berroya, said the Oplan Isnabero hotline has been getting text messages warning him that he or members of his family will be killed anytime.

One sender threatened that if Quiambao is not careful, he or his children may be beheaded.

Quiambao, however, said the death threats were overshadowed by praises they received from victims of arrogant drivers who were summoned to the LTO central office to answer complaints against them.

The LTO has received more than 3,500 complaints since it launched the operation two months ago. Quiambao said at least 20 drivers report to the LTO everyday to confront the complaint filed against them.

He said they first summon the taxi operators, who will reveal the names of the drivers on duty when the complaint was reported to the LTO.

If the drivers ignore summons sent to the address listed on his license his name will recorded in the LTO database and the complaint will be acted upon when they renew their license.  Perseus Echeminada
