Fire hits QC garage; 7 buses destroyed

Seven buses were totally destroyed in a fire that occurred in a garage in Novaliches, Quezon City yesterday morning.

The fire that hit the garage of Lippad Bus Liner on Sauyo Road started at 10:35 a.m. only reached first alarm and was put out at 11:20 a.m.

SFO1 Renato Gallego said the blaze started when the upholstery of one of the two buses undergoing repair caught fire.

Mechanic Fermin Cabuag, along with a welder and another helper, was installing bolts underneath a bus when he noticed that the upholstery was already on fire.

Gallego said owner Wendell Lippad still could not give an exact amount as to the total cost of damage. Lippad, however, said each of the buses cost about P500,000.

The garage itself was not destroyed except for some fire damage to the ceiling. There were no reported casualties.

Gallego said the cause of the fire is still undetermined at the moment.  – Reinir Padua
