Wrong man to rob

A policeman shot dead yesterday a robber, who along with three others, made the mistake of grabbing his gold necklace in Mandaluyong City yesterday.

Roderick Darang, of  Mandaluyong City, sustained gunshot wounds in the chest. He died while being treated at the Victor Potenciano Medical Center. Darang yielded the gold necklace he and his companions grabbed from SPO1 Federico Delica, of the Headquarters Support Service at Camp Crame.

Mandaluyong City police chief Senior Superintendent Ericson Velasquez said the off-duty Delica was walking along ADB Avenue at 1:20 p.m. when he felt an icepick on his neck.

He turned and saw Darang and his companions pointing knives and a revolver  at him. Delica said Darang then grabbed his gold necklace.

“I was outnumbered. So I did not do anything that might reveal my identity as a cop because they might kill me,” Delica told Velasquez.

As the four suspects fled Delica, pulled out his service firearm, a 9mm automatic pistol and fired at Darang. Delica surrendered to the Mandaluyong police. – Non Alquitran
