An ABS-CBN official filed a complaint yesterday with the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC), accusing two network officials of illegal suspension and sought over P2 million in damages.
Fernando Aboga complained that news department officials Maria Ressa and Rosario Villa unjustly placed him under preventive suspension without due process.
He said that two months ago, Ressa and Villa required him to explain an alleged violation of protocol for pursuing “a valid and legitimate story.” He added that he was eventually cleared of any liability.
Aboga said the allegation resurfaced and he was placed under preventive suspension for 30 days due to an unverified bribery charge.
“I had no idea what was happening. I was not even informed if a formal charge was filed against me, or what actions I have committed that may have constituted a wrongdoing,” Aboga added.
Aboga is demanding over P2 million for actual, moral and exemplary damages.
ABS-CBN said in a statement that “Aboga is being investigated for possible violations of the Code of Ethics. He is also currently under preventive suspension." Its officials have not received a copy of Aboga's complaint. – Mayen Jaymalin
