BF residents to meet on Maynilad takeover

- Michael Punongbayan -

Mayor Florencio Bernabe has called for another gathering of BF Homes Parañaque homeowners’ association presidents to discuss Maynilad Water Inc.’s impending takeover of water supply and distributions systems of the subdivision.

He said the meeting, which will be held this weekend, seeks to inform enclaves of recent most developments and other concerns.

“Homeowners’ presidents only,” Bernabe told The Star in an interview, noting that concerned groups need to know that Maynilad will handle all legal requirements related to the petition for takeover.

He said he recently learned that among the reasons why most homeowners’ groups have failed to submit their individual requests of intervention was the lack of lawyers to assist them.

“They don’t need lawyers. So that was the problem. Maynilad’s lawyers will take charge, they just need to submit their petitions for take-over,” he explained.

Last week, Bernabe expressed disappointment over the BF Homes Parañaque homeowners’ groups’ failure to submit the documents required of them.

But after learning of the reason behind it, Bernabe said he has renewed confidence that the homeowners will submit their petitions for Maynilad’s takeover soon after this weekend’s meeting.

Bernabe said recent issues concerning the United BF Homeowners Associations Inc. (UBFHAI), which is the mother organizations of some 70 homeowner’s groups in Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Muntinlupa, will not affect efforts to solve the village’s water woes.

BF Homes residents in all three localities have long been asking the government to help them solve their water problems brought about by the supposed failure of the subdivision’s owner and developer to supply them sufficient and affordable water for several years now.

Bernabe, with the help of Maynilad executives and the office of Vice President Noli De Castro, has been working on the case for the past several months.

He remains optimistic that they will be able to put an end to the problem soon by using the government’s power to have Maynilad take over all water systems of a private subdivision whose owner and developer has been remiss of its duties to provide water to the subdivision’s residents.
