Laptop, valuables stolen from newsman’s car

-

Thieves smashed the window of the parked car owned by a newspaper’s entertainment editor and carted away his laptop and personal belongings worth P175,000 in San Juan City.

Isah Red, Manila Standard Today’s entertainment editor, parked his silver-gray BMW (plate number XRH-963) at the Greenhills Shopping Center car park Thursday night.

When he returned a few hours later, Red discovered that the glass window on his car’s right side had been shattered and his Mac Book Pro laptop and other valuables stolen.

The laptop alone costs P150,000. The repair of Red’s car window was estimated at P25,000.

Red said the repair of his damaged car is no big deal, but lamented the loss of his laptop because he has a lot of data stored in it.

The STAR learned that the surveillance camera at the shopping center was not functioning at the time of the incident and the security guards had taken a break.

Senior Superintendent Nilo de la Cruz, director of the Eastern Police District (EPD), said car owners should be careful when parking their vehicles at mall parking lots.

Meanwhile, Kap Maceda Aguila, Ortigas and Co. external affairs and corporate communications manager, said he delivered to Red a replacement of his stolen laptop, including its peripherals.

Aguila said they are evaluating the services provided by the security agency Safeguard, whose personnel were deployed at the shopping center. – Non Alquitran
