Flavier, 9 others chosen outstanding citizens of QC

Former senator Juan Flavier and eight other nominees has been chosen as outstanding citizens of Quezon City for 2007. That will received the “Gawad Parangal” during awarding ceremonies to be held at the Grand Ballroom of the Crown Plaza Galleria top city officials said yesterday.

Dr. Victor Endriga, city treasurer, will lead the awarding rites which will highlight the 68th anniversary celebration of the city on Oct. 12.

 Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. will lead city officials in handing the marble trophies to the honorees.

Aside from Flavier, also chosen from nominees are Dr. Estrella Alabastro, science and technology; Dr. Emerlinda Roman woman educator; Ambassador Ramon del Rosario, business and industrialist; Dr. Gerardo Sicat, outstanding services as academician and development planner; National Artist Francisco Sionel Jose, literary and arts; Shirley Halili Cruz, Ballet dance promotion; Dennis Orcollo, national billiard champion for Sports and former Supreme Court Associate Justice Efren Plana, government service.

Endriga who is the chairman of the Foundation anniversary committee said Flavier was chosen for outstanding public service as Secretary of Health and as a former member of the Philippine Senate.

Endriga said an outstanding organization will also be honored along with the nine other awardees.

The 10th awardee is the Rotary Club International District 3780, which has been chosen as Quezon City’s Outstanding Organization for its wide ranging scope with the city’s serious programs and activities.   – Perseus Echeminada
