BI to deport Indian who abandoned pregnant girlfriend
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is set to deport an Indian national earlier arrested for allegedly abandoning a Filipina he has impregnated, it was learned yesterday.
Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said the bureau’s Board of Commissioners has issued a deportation order against Gurninder Bhandal, who is now detained at the BI jail in Bicutan,
Bhandal was arrested last Sept. 13 by BI Law Enforcement Division (LED) agents in Dasol, Pangasinan following a complaint filed by his estranged girlfriend, Marygene Cervantes.
In her complaint, Cervantes said she lived with Bhandal for four months, starting December last year. She claimed that Bhandal suddenly left her upon learning that she was pregnant.
It was learned that Bhandal then married another Filipina.
BI–LED operations chief Wilfredo Poquez said Bhandal violently resisted arrest and even badmouthed arresting officers.
“He and his wife continued to mouth bad words against my men and even called them kidnappers even if the charges were already explained to them,” he said.
Bhandal claimed the BI issued him a temporary resident visa when he married his wife.
But Poquez said the visa was not enough to prevent Bhandal from being deported since what he did to Cervantes made him an undesirable alien.
Bhandal is currently undergoing deportation proceedings, Poquez said.
