NBI seizes P22-M computers from 8 firms
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) recently seized P22 million worth of computers from eight companies in Metro Manila that were allegedly using unlicensed computer software.
Regional Director Ruel Lasala, NBI-National Capital Region (NCR), said they conducted the raid in response to the complaint filed by Autodesk Inc. through its representatives, Bengzon Negre Untalan (BNU), a law firm specializing in intellectual property laws.
In a statement, Lasala identified the companies they raided as YAE Philippines, New Kanlaon Construction, JAO Builders, Gracewood Products, Eigentech Corp., MSA Production, CAD Data Source and Display Logic. They are located in the cities of
Autodesk reportedly claimed that the eight companies were illegally utilizing its computer software for engineering and architectural designs.
From these companies, the NBI operatives took 88 sets of computers, with a combined value of P22 million. The items will be stored temporarily in storage warehouses to be designated by the court.
Case officer NBI Agent Roberto Divinagracia said after confirming the report, he applied for search warrants from several court judges.
