Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay is predicting that tourism will become one of the main sources of employment for the city’s residents over the next few years.
“Tourism is one of the sunshine industries of the country. Here in Makati, as we continue to retain our position as the premiere urban tourism center in the country, residents can be assured that jobs will be available to them in most tourism establishments in the city,” Binay said.
He stressed that Makati City remains the financial and business capital of the country and the place where international seminars and conventions are held.
Binay also added that the city boasts of the biggest hotels in the country and is the preferred location of restaurants and wellness centers.
”We believe that Makati is the gateway of tourism in the Philippines as they still go through the city before going through other travel spots in the country,” Binay said.
The Makati Tourism Foundation Inc. (MTFI), which Binay chairs, announced the holding of the 2nd Travel and Leisure Get-Away in Ayala Center next week.
He said the expo, which will open on Monday, will showcase the best services Makati has to offer.
The expo will feature 24 leading Makati-based establishments in the airline, car rental, hotel, resort, spa, telecommunication and travel industries that will be offering products and services at discounted prices.
“The expo is a glimpse of what Makati can offer. We will further stimulate growth in tourism together with these companies and others that have chosen to establish their business presence here in the city,” Binay said.
The expo, which will run for three days, is organized by the MTFI together with the Makati government, Ayala malls and Danex. – Rhodina Villanueva
