Man peddles Lim’s business cards

- Edu Punay -

Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim yesterday ordered the Manila Police District to track down an unidentified man who is allegedly selling the mayor’s fake business cards to drivers of jeepney, taxis and other commuter vehicles.

Lim has issued the directive after receiving complaints from several groups of jeepney and taxi drivers about the suspect who has been going around selling for P200 each the mayor’s business cards that will supposedly give the card holder the influence to elude arrest for certain traffic violations.

Complainants said the suspect, whom they described as elderly, tall and skinny, would assure the drivers that the cards were real and could help them elude arrest for traffic violations.

It was learned from the drivers who reported to the mayor’s office, that the suspect would reportedly ride the jeep or taxi and then refuse to pay upon reaching his destination.

He would then demand P20 from the driver and then tell him to prepare P200 if he wants to have Lim’s business card.

Most of the victims, according to the mayor, were jeepney drivers plying the MCU-Bonifacio Monumento route from Pablo Ocampo St.

In connection with this, Lim appealed to the public to immediately report to his office any such activities, stressing he will not tolerate anyone who will use his name for monetary gains.

Lim assured the people that he will not tolerate any person using his name to escape penalty for breaking the law.

He directed the MPD to conduct follow up operations to immediately arrest the suspect selling fake business cards of the mayor.
