Caloocan residents urged to support sports program

-

Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri yesterday urged residents to continue their active participation in and support for the sports development programs of the local government.

He said that apart from enjoying the activity, being active in sports promotes good health and fosters sportsmanship among participants.

Echiverri said the local government, through the Sports and Recreation Services, has various activities lined up that promote body and mind conditioning.

He said Caloocan City represented the National Capital Region (NCR) in the softball competition during the recent Palarong Pambansa held in Koronadal, South Cotabato.

Echiverri said that the city’s Sports Office also played host to the recent National Rapid Chess Team Championship, a competition open to all chess clubs in the country. Among its participants were Grand Masters Joey Antonio and Mark Paragua.

The city also hosted recently a boxing show, Bakbakan sa Caloocan, which featured 60 rounds of boxing from the best pool of professional fighters in the local arena.

Echiverri said Caloocan City also participated in the recent Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Junior Basketball League, a tournament for boys aged 9-10 and 11-12, wherein the Caloocan team placed third in Division 1.

He said the city government also regularly conducts the Recom 10–kilometer fun-run to promote good health among residents of all ages through jogging and other enjoyable exercises. – Pete Laude
