Marikina to hold water summit today

-

The Marikina City government will hold a Water Summit today for barangay officials and the business sector in line with its “Clean River, Clean Water” project.

The project was launched when the Marikina government and the United States Agency for International Development signed a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of a wastewater facility and the citywide inculcation of effective septage management practices in households.

The city government will also conduct a series of seminars to promote the project, as well as a “Wash Day” at the Freedom Park to advocate for water sanitation.

The subsequent stages of the project include upgrading the sanitation system in the public market, business district and settlement communities.

The city council will also enact an ordinance that supports the vision of the project.

Marikina City has received numerous awards for its health and environmental management efforts, including the Continuing Excellence Award (Hall of Fame) from the Galing Pook Foundation and the Award for Progress of Healthy Cities with Outstanding Performance from the World Health Organization in 2006.
