Hunt on for ‘Chihuahua Gang’

The Quezon City police is tracking down a gang whose members steal pure bred studs, particularly Chihuahuas.

Kamuning police precinct commander Carlito Feliciano said 10 armed men barged into a compound along Road 8 in Barangay Pag-asa Wednesday evening and stole four Chihuahua studs owned by Allan Alamo.

Feliciano said earlier in the day, two men told Alamo they are looking for studs with which to breed their dogs and said they would be back that evening.

When the men returned, one of them pretended to inspect the dogs while the other opened the gate for the other suspects, who went in with drawn pistols, police said.

“Their targets are the Chihuahua studs, which are kept inside the dog breeding station,” Feliciano told The STAR.

The suspects hogtied Alamo and fled on board a red Toyota Crosswind that was waiting outside, he added.

Quezon City Police District director Senior Superintendent Magtanggol Gatdula said the group has been operating in various parts of Metro Manila and this is the first time its members hit a dog breeding station in Quezon City.

Police said the gang’s modus operandi is to advertise in newspapers, claiming to be looking for studs to breed their pet dogs.

Gatdula urged the public, particularly pet owners who own Chihuahuas and other miniature dogs, to be careful when responding to these advertisements. – Perseus Echeminada
