Muntinlupa City official shot

- Rhodina Villanueva -

Muntinlupa City Administrator Roberto Bunye, a cousin of Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye was shot and wounded by unidentified suspects last Tuesday night.

Superintendent Alfredo Valdez, Muntinlupa Police officer-in-charge, said that at around 8:40 p.m. when Engr. Roberto Bunyi was driving his car, a white Toyota Revo (SFT-520), the suspects attacked the victim along Bruger Street in Barangay Putatan.

The three suspects were on board a motorcycle and were armed with a .45 caliber pistol.

Bunyi who sustained a gunshot wound in the back, was able to drive his car to the Medical Center in Muntinlupa. He was later transferred to another hospital where he is now recuperating.

Valdez said they recovered at the crime scene 20 empty shells from a .45 caliber pistol.

Muntinlupa Mayor Aldrin San Pedro said the attack may have been carried out by people opposed to the clearing operations conducted by the city government and the Metro Manila Development Authority at the Alabang viaduct.

San Pedro said he has been receiving complaints from pedestrians and business establishments concerning obstructions and illegal structures.

The city government pushed through with the clearing operations at the Alabang viaduct when illegal shanties were demolished.

San Pedro said he saw the illegal structures and illegal vendors in the area during a recent inspection in Alabang.

“We are just doing our job,” San Pedro said, referring to the systematic dismantling of illegal structures and the transfer of ambulant vendors facilitated recently by the city government in coordination with the Metro Manila Development Authority.
