At least 15 people, including five women, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the illegal numbers game “jueteng” following an order by Pasay City Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad for the city police to intensify its drive against the proliferation of illegal gambling in the city.

Based on Trinidad’s directive, Senior Inspector Carlos Ogalinola, chief of the Pasay City Hall detachment, dispatched a team to conduct an operation at Primero de Marso street near Zamora street, where several people engaged in jueteng have reportedly been sighted.

The policemen were successful in arresting Danilo Santos, 33; Antonio Biñas, 49; Midel Formaran, 43; Gerardo Andres, 42; Rolando Casag, 53; Jose Madrigal, 44; Corazon Advincula, 43; Romy Santiago, 47; Dionisio Jose, 36; Mila Castro, 42; Veronica Salas, 52; Ladylyn Mendoza, 40; Lina Santos, 33; Hilario Herrera, 40; and Rogelio Sanggalang, 40, all alleged bet collectors.

The police confiscated gambling paraphernalia and P2,786.50 in bets from the suspects, who identified a certain “Bong” of Primero de Marso street in Pasay, as their jueteng operator.

Charges of violation of Presidential Decree 1602, otherwise known as the anti-gambling law, are now being prepared against the 15 suspects.           Rhodina Villanueva
