Ice plant supervisor killed in ambush

A 43-year-old maintenance supervisor was ambushed and killed by a lone gunman while he and his nine-year-old son were on their way home in Tondo, Manila Wednesday night.

Edilberto Namigot, who worked at an ice plant, was declared dead on arrival at the Tondo Medical Center. He sustained multiple bullet wounds in the face, head and back. His son was unhurt.

Investigation conducted by Senior Police Officer 2 Benito Cabatbat showed that at around 7 p.m. Namigot left his place of work together with his son on board his owner-type jeepney.

On their way to their house in Balut, Tondo, as they were  cruising along Honorio Lopez street, a lone gunman appeared and fired successive shots at Namigot. The suspect fled on foot, sparing the boy, who was seated beside his father.

The boy and several witnesses described the gunman as in his late 30s, at least five-foot tall, muscular and sporting a short haircut. Police are set to release a sketch of the suspect.

Investigators are still determining the motive for the ambush.   Nestor Etolle
