Napocor to make Masinloc plant more attractive to buyers

A truck helper was killed and two others injured when the truck they were riding burst a tire and rammed the concrete railings at the foot of the Magallanes flyover in Makati City at midnight yesterday.

The fatality was identified as Marcel Gupa, 25. Police said truck driver Charlie Madarang, 35, and helper Alfredo Garcia, 38, were also injured during the accident.

Madarang told probers that he was driving the Isuzu trailer truck with license plate CTN-559 along the southbound lane of EDSA when one of the truck’s tires ruptured, causing him to lose control.

He said the truck, which was loaded with recycled cartons, flipped on its right side and rammed the concrete railings at the foot of the Magallanes flyover and pinned Gupa, who was sitting in the rightmost part of the passenger seat, before it stopped.

Gupa was rushed to the Ospital ng Makati, where he died hours later. Madarang was placed under police custody.

The police are still determining Madarang’s possible culpability in the accident. – Jose Rodel Clapano
