Police said the boy, identified as Anthony Rendillo, had been swimming in the river.
Investigator Paul Dennis Javier, of Manila Police District’s homicide division, said Rendillo’s body was found by personnel of the Philippine Port Control Center, who were patrolling near Delpan Bridge at around 9 in the morning.
An initial police investigation found that Rendillo was a resident of Muelle Dela Industria in Binondo and a Grade 1 pupil at Pedro Zamora Elementary School. The boy had gone to the river to swim with friends.
Javier said no wounds were found on the boy’s body, prompting police to conclude that he drowned.– Edu Punay
