Traffic rerouting in Caloocan today

-
Caloocan City is celebrating its 45th founding anniversary today and traffic has been rerouted for anniversary programs scheduled to be held around 7 p.m. at the Bonifacio Monument Circle.

All local government offices, national agencies and private companies within the jurisdiction of the city are ordered to observe the holiday. Likewise, classes in all private and public schools have been suspended.

Mayor Enrico Echiverri ordered a traffic rerouting after thousands of motorists ran into a monstrous traffic jam that spilled into sidestreets and lasted for hours Wednesday night because of a mass wedding held at the Bonifacio Monument Circle.

The new rerouting scheme orders all vehicles, except buses, from Quezon City going to Valenzuela to turn right at McArthur Highway.

Those from Quezon City going to Malabon and Navotas, except buses, must turn right at McArthur Highway, left to Potrero Road, left to Araneta Avenue and right to Samson Road.

Buses must take the usual route turning right at Simon street, exit at Araneta Avenue then take Samson Road.

Vehicles from Manila to Valenzuela and Quezon City must turn right to 5th, 8th and 9th avenues then left to Boni Serrano and right to EDSA.

Those going on to Valenzuela must take the second U-turn slot going to McArthur Highway.

Echiverri has issued an executive order inviting residents to participate in the celebration.

A Holy Mass will be celebrated around 7 a.m. at the Bulwagang Katipunan which will be followed by the "Gawad RECOM," an award given to outstanding residents.

Highlighting the celebration is the grand coronation night of the "Ginoo and Binibining Caloocan 2007" at around 7 p.m. at the Bonifacio Monument Circle. – Jerry Botial
