Jilted lover commits suicide in Malabon

A 21-year-old vendor, disheartened when his girlfriend broke up with him, committed suicide by drinking a bottle of acid yesterday in Malabon City.

Malabon City police chief Senior Superintendent Ramon de Jesus, identified the victim as Melencio Santos II, of 82 Liwayway St.,Barangay Bayan-Bayanan.

Police said the victim was found dead at the second floor of their house by his older brother Melanio Santos, 27.

Beside the victim was an empty bottle of acid used in cleaning jewelry.

Police Officer 1 Romel Habig said that earlier that day, the victim had a heated argument with his girlfriend who was not immediately identified The quarrel resulted in the two lovers’ split up.

The victim’s older sister Estelita, 52, tried to console her heartbroken brother but she was also surprised when she saw him holding a bottle of acid..

Ramos’brother Melanio also talked to his younger brother and told him to put away the acid.

The siblings were later shocked when they found Melencio sprawled in their second floor and holding a bottle of acid.

The victim was rushed to the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon but the doctors failed to revive him. The victim’s body was brought yesterday to the Floresco Funeral Homes for autopsy. — Pete Laude
