A truck helper was shot dead while a colleague was seriously injured by four gunmen in a highway robbery pulled on a delivery truck of Asia Brewery, Inc. last Wednesday in Caloocan City, authorities reported yesterday.
According to investigator Senior Police Officer 2 Julian Chavez, the truck was cruising on an isolated road in Bagong Silang at around 2:30 p.m. when four armed men flagged them down. One of them, armed with a caliber .38 revolver, stood in the trucks path.
But salesman and truck driver Ronald Samson speeded up instead and went around the gunman, prompting the robbers to open fire in an attempt to stop the truck.
Truck assistant Rodrigo Mirabueno was killed in the first volley while Samson took a bullet in the body. Another truck helper, Romeo Almasin, was unscathed.
Samson, critically wounded, was forced to stop by the roadside and the assailants took off with the crews payment collection for the day. With Pete Laude
