Housewife injected with wrong medicine dies

- Non Alquitran -
A housewife died in a hospital in Pasig City where she was confined for an ailment after a nurse reportedly injected her with the wrong medicine.

The family of Jennifer Millare, 32, are now waiting for the results of an autopsy conducted by the crime laboratory of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

"Once the autopsy report confirms that my wife died due to the negligence of hospital staff, we will take the cue from there," said Millare’s husband, Remigio, a computer technician in Saudi Arabia.

Millare was confined at the Alfonso Specialist Hospital in Barangay Rosario. Her husband has been working abroad for the past five years to support the family. They have two children.

The husband rushed home after being informed of his wife’s death. Millare went to the hospital on Jan. 5 because of chest pain. At around 9 p.m., a still unidentified nurse had reportedly injected medicine into her intravenous line. Millare died hours later.

Judelyn Batuto, who stayed with Millare at the hospital, claimed she overheard the nurse telling her colleague that she had mistakenly given Millare the wrong medicine.

Reporters tried to get the side of the hospital but its management and staff have refused to give comment.

But in a television interview, a hospital staffer said it was possible that Millare could have died of a heart attack, noting that she had a history of heart disease.
