Police in Quezon City have arrested two suspected New Peoples Army communist rebels last Wendesday, officials disclosed yesterday.
A Quezon City Police District patrol car was cruising in Balintawak just outside the North Luzon Expressway when officers spotted a driver of a Toyota van not wearing his seatbelt.
The police car went over to check but the van sped away instead of stopping, prompting a brief chase that ended at the tollway of the North Luzon Expressway.
Three men were arrested, driver Jose Dizon and his two passengers, Elmer Garcia and Wilmer Joson.
A search of the van yielded several mobile phones and subversive documents, leading the arresting officers to suspect Garcia and Joson to be NPA members.
The NPA is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines. Both are considered terrorist organizations by the US government.
It was not immediately known if Garcia and Joson were on a mission. Perseus Echeminada
