Man kills self after affair breakup

A married man who could not bear to be separated for good from his lover stabbed himself in the heart with a kitchen knife before his horrified girlfriend Wednesday night in Valenzuela City.

Investigator SPO2 Angeles Miranda said Edward de la Cruz, 32, went to the apartment of his alleged lover, whose name was withheld by the police, at around 9 p.m. to change her mind about her resolve to end their relationship.

It was not long before they were heard by neighbors arguing heatedly and the man went into hysterics. He went to the kitchen and returned with a knife.

The man thrust the knife into the hands of the woman, who froze in her tracks, and told her: "Kill me if you’re going leave me!"

The woman threw away the knife, angering De la Cruz. He then grabbed the woman, shook her, slapped her around and banged her head against the wall. He picked up the knife and said: "I’ll just kill myself then!"

De la Cruz plunged the knife into his chest, hitting his heart. The woman cried out to neighbors for help. De la Cruz was taken to the hospital but died along the way. — With Pete Laude
