December 27, 2006 | 12:00am
A small Philippine Army passenger plane with Army chief Lt. Gen. Romeo Tolentino and several other officials on board nearly lost its brakes while taxiing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport yesterday.
Tolentino was flying to the Bicol region, hit hard recently by typhoon "Reming," to inspect the disaster relief operations there.
Maj. Ernesto Torres said the Cessna planes pilot noticed the brake trouble while they were taxiing. He managed to stop the plane long before they reached the main runway. No one was hurt.
Tolentino and the others later transferred to an Air Force Huey helicopter. James Mananghaya
