Japanese embassy officer dies from fall

An administrative officer of the Japanese embassy in Manila fell to his death from the 25th floor of a condominium building in Makati City yesterday morning.

Kazayuki Ito, 23, landed on the 7th floor’s poolside ground of the Manansala Condominium, located along Hidalgo Street, Rockwell. He died instantly of fatal head and body injuries.

Senior Police Officer 4 Danny Diaz, chief of the follow-up operations section of the Makati City police, said Babie Pullos, 30, a security guard of Megaforce Security Agency, found the victim’s body around 9:30 a.m.

According to him, Ito, a building tenant, called his driver Sammy Celestino, 26, to pick up something minutes before he supposedly committed suicide.

Diaz said investigators are yet to determine why the Japanese national killed himself or if there was foul play involved.

Makati City police chief, Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, said the driver and other witnesses are being asked to give statements.

"He had time to call his driver. The driver didn’t even had a clue that what he was going to pick-up would be his boss’ dead body," he told The STAR.

Diaz said investigators want to know who was the last person to see Ito alive or who was the last person the victim saw and talked to besides his driver to find out if it was really a suicide.
