Marikina’s 4th most notorious criminal nabbed

- Non Alquitran -
A highway robber tagged as the No. 4 most wanted criminal in Marikina City and his accomplice were arrested yesterday while allegedly out to pull off a robbery.

Superintendent Sotero Ramos Jr., Marikina City police chief said Gaspar Mayuga is facing five arrest warrants for highway robbery in various courts in Marikina City. Mayuga had changed his middle name from Tabigue to Dellosa apparently to conceal his involvement in a series of robbery cases.

Ramos said the arresting officers — PO3 Aniceto David and PO2 Diomedes Antenor of Police Community Precinct 4 and PO2 Aladin Alingas and PO1 Vergilio Calanoga of PCP 12 — were patrolling Sumulong Highway corner E. de la Paz St., in Barangay Sto. Nino at about 10:45 a.m. when they chanced upon Mayuga robbing a man at gunpoint.

Mayuga then tucked away the gun in his waist and walked to his accomplice, JayR Marpuri, who was on a waiting motorcycle.

Ramos said his men went over and checked if Mayuga was licensed to carry a gun. Mayuga was arrested and his caliber .38 revolver seized when he could not produce any document. Marpuri was searched and police found a fan knife and two live bullets.

"They were looking for victims to rob when my men spotted them. They gave themselves up peacefully when accosted," said Ramos.

During questioning at the Marikina City police headquarters, Mayuga gave his middle name as Dellosa to Inspector Jose Salazar, chief of the criminal investigation section.

However, one of the police investigators positively identified him as the subject of a police manhunt for highway robbery.
