Money courier escapes robbery attempt

- Pete Laude -
A door-to-door cash delivery courier was hurt after he was waylaid by two motorcycle-riding gunmen during a bungled robbery attempt Saturday afternoon in Caloocan City.

Roberto Billedo, 35, an employee of Pinoy Express money delivery, sustained a gunshot wound in the left thigh and is now recuperating in a hospital.

Investigator PO2 Leo Pineda said Billedo was about to deliver an unspecified amount of cash in Tala when attacked by the gunmen. Police found four shells from a 9mm pistol from the crime scene.

Billedo was on his motorcycle cruising along Saint Paul Street, Barracks 11 in Barangay 186 in Tala district at around 1:30 p.m. when two men riding in tandem in a motorcycle pulled up alongside him.

The motorcycle passenger pulled out a handgun and ordered Billedo to stop but the latter ignored the suspects.

That prompted the gunman to fire several shots at the fleeing Billedo, hitting him in the thigh.

Maintaining his composure, Billedo kept driving until he reached a crowded area and abruptly stopped, falling off his motorcycle. The assailants aborted their heist and fled when the crowd came to Billedo’s rescue.
