The cries for help of Collinwine Saturnino, 16, of Libis Espina St., Caloocan, attracted bystanders who assisted her in chasing the robbers.
The residents led by Saturnino, who lost her valuable Nokia 6020 cellphone to the robbers, later cornered one suspect who was identified as Rojon Salipot, 24, of 189 Paradise Village, Malabon.
The mob ganged up on Salipot and beat up the suspect, before he was turned over to the police.
Police Officer 1 Cristobal Duque of the Caloocan police, said Saturnino was on her way home from school, and was on board a passenger jeepney. Salipot and the two other suspects also boarded the vehicle.
Probers said when the jeepney reached the corner of Dagat-Dagatan Ave. and Mabuhay St., one of the suspects poked a gun at Saturnino while the two others pulled out knives and took her Nokia 6020 cellphone worth P5,000 and her P70 baon. Saturnino was the lone passenger.
Probers said the three suspects alighted from the jeepney and fled. Saturnino chased the three suspects while screaming at the top of her voice calling for help and residents helped her pursue the robbers. Jerry Botial, Ian Estrada
